Just stop using it, but if you downloaded any apps with the alternative Apple ID, you will need to use it when installing app updates for any apps downloaded with the Apple ID.

While it is possible to delete an Apple ID, it's not something you can do on your own. You'd have to contact Apple Account Security, verify your identity, and confirm 100% that you really, really want to delete the Apple ID, and therefore lose all the content that was ever purchased with that Apple ID, and never again be able to use that email address for an Apple ID ever again.

Why do you want to delete the Apple ID? Perhaps your root issue can be resolved in another fashion

I want to remove my alternate apple id to be able to use the alternate apple id (in my case xxMyName@icloud.com) to a new apple id i created and has been using for a while now. So the old apple id is of no use to me anymore. Is this possible?

No, the Alternate Apple ID (usually an @icloud.com email address) is tied to that particular Apple ID. If you create another Apple ID, you can't transfer that over. However, you can change the primary email address of your Apple ID, unless it is currently an Apple-based email account.

I took am trying to figure out how to change the "Alternate Apple ID". For whatever reason, it links to my wife's account and everything is screwed up. My passwords aren't working. Password change emails go to her and not me, etc. Tearing my hair out trying to figure this out...

I agree, it's madness! Why can't we delete "Alternate Apple ID" ? My son is associated with my Apple ID and now he gets answers to my text messages on HIS phone and I don't get them !! AGGHHHHHHH
