Macbook Pro Connected to Wi-Fi But No Internet

Sounds like the DHCP setting on the router is giving your laptop some issues.

I have been on networks like these before so i resort in using a static IP for that location.

Find out all of the IP information that you will need to input them and try again.

From the menu bar, select

 ▹ System Preferences ▹ Network ▹ Advanced ▹ TCP/IP

What values are shown for the following?

• Configure IPv4
• IPv4 Address
• Subnet Mask
• Router

What exactly happens when you try to access the Internet?

From the menu bar, select

 ▹ System Preferences... ▹ Network ▹ Advanced... ▹ DNS

Under DNS Servers you should have one or more numerical addresses, such as “192.168.1.1” or “10.0.0.1”. What are those addresses?

Have you tried to connect to any other networks, and if so, did that work?

Most wireless routers can block or admit clients by their hardware address. I suggest you check with your roomate to find out whether that's the problem.

I have had the same issue and searched the forums and found nothing that helped. I contacted apple support and this is what they told me to do:

First we’ll do the SMC reset

1.) Shut down the Mac and connect to power source.

2.) Unplug external devices, flash drives, external monitors, external HD (Keep the Mac plugged into power source)

3.) Hold down “Shift” + “Control” + “Option” (On the left side of the keyboard) + Power key for 30 seconds.

*The Mac should remain powered off during the reset, the LED on the MagSafe Adapter may change colors.

**The “Option” key is also known as the “Alt” key on some Macs.

Awesome, now let’s reset the NVRAM

1.) Locate these keys “Command”, “Option, “P” & “R”

2.) Power on your Mac

3.) Immediately press and hold all 4 keys “Command” “Option” “P” “R”

4.) Listen for 2 boot chimes and then release.

**The “Option” key is also known as the “Alt” key on some Macs.
