It is just causing nothing but problems for ATV users all of a sudden when the exacct same hardware and display device software/firmware used to work perfectly.
I think there is a policy change that resulted in a software change that Apple and other concerned parties are not telling the public.

Not seen that myself, but firmware updates have occasionally improved compatibility with certain TVs so by extension they could potentially break compatibility as well.
More likely though an issue with the HDMI connectors/lead - try another lead if you have one, unpower AppleTv and restart it. If no luck it may be worth doing a firmware restorevia iTuns or from teh Settings reset menus.
This happened to me last night as well. Nothing has changed on my end unless there was an automatic update to the AppleTV. This crap ****** me off to no end.
There was a minor update, haven't noticed any changes myself. Try suggestions above.
