SMB Fileshare Windows 8 to iMac Mavericks

Hi,

I am trying to setup a shared folder on my iMac and have Windows 8.1 computers connect properly to it via a workgroup environment at home. All machines on the same "Workgroup" network.Unfortunately I keep getting "Network Error" dialog on Windows 8.1 when trying to access various files.

It works sometimes, then not.

This is not an issue from Windows 7. Works just fine. Only Windows 8.1.

iMac fileshare is setup was done with a Shared Folder on the desktop. It is shared with specific credentials (Read/Write) using "user1" on the iMac and the same "user1" setup on the Windows 8.1 PC. Also, "Everyone" is listed int he Share as "Read Only".

I have tested using default SMB protocols (which I believe were 2), and since reconfigured both iMac and PC to force to 1. (See below)

Countless hours have been spent rebooting and retesting from multiple angles.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

David

For example...

Windows 8.1

To disable SMBv2 and SMBv3 on the SMB client, run the following commands:

sc.exe config lanmanworkstation depend= bowser/mrxsmb10/nsi

sc.exe config mrxsmb20 start= disabled

iMac Mavericks

To force all connections to be SMB1:

echo "[default]" >> ~/Library/Preferences/nsmb.conf; echo "smb_neg=smb1_only" >> ~/Library/Preferences/nsmb.conf
