Apple Hardware Test Error 4 MEM/62/40000000 :0x7efd7990

Hi

My friends 13 inch MacBook Pro (2012 non Retina) recently started randomly freezing and then powering itself off. After running Apple Hardware Test, the above error was returned. However, I have no clue what that means and Google doesn't seem to either...

Does anyone know what the above means?

Any help is appreciated.

PS: From the behavior of the computer, I suspect faulty ram, but maybe only a memory cell/block at the end of the chip e.g. Only used when the RAM is almost "full" as the computer works fine most of the time. My friend never does any gaming on the machine, or anything very memory intensive.

It's a problem with RAM - for some reason it failed the Apple hardware test.

Did your friend install new RAM in his/her machine at any time? Or does the machine still have the RAM that it originally shipped with?

You can also download and run Rember if you want to verify that there's a problem with the RAM.

Good luck,

Clinton
