Q: My mouse is discoverable, it ill scroll up & down, but I can't point to anything on screen at will. The cursor doesn't move at all when the mouse is moved in any direction on my desk. Trying to find out what's wrong with my mouse.

My mouse is discovered, it will scroll up & down but I can't point it to anything on screen at will. The cursor doesn't move when the mouse is moved in any direction on my desk. I primarily use a trackpad, but trying to find out what's wrong with my mouse?

What kind of mouse, exactly which iMac and what version of OS X are you using. Without basics no one is going to be able give you an intelligent answer.

Mighty Mouse or Magic Mouse and is it USB or Wireless....?

Disconnect (USB) or remove the batteries (Wireless), turn it belly up, blow off and clean the optic sensor on it's bottom.

Oops! The iMac is mid 2011 using version OS X 10.9.1. The mouse is wireless and I think it's called the magic. mouse.
