I just upgraded to mavericks. Now it is saying that I do not have wifi hardware installed. I had access to wifi prior to install.

I have a 2010 MacBook Pro running OS 10.9.2 and had the same problem: the wifi icon displayed an X and the message wifi no hardware installed.

I fixed this by going to Energy Saver in System Preferences, choosing the Power Adapter tab and de-selecting the Wake for network access option. I re-started my mac and the problem was solved. I forgot where I saw this fix but it was simply.

This also cleared up another problem with my mac not recognizing the Airport Express on my wireless network.
