Q: Wifi Issue on Mac Mini running OS X 10.9.1

Hello. I have recently bought a 2nd hand Mac mini 2011 running OSX 10.9.1. I have a wireless USB adapter.

The problem is when I start my Mac mini the wifi starts working fine, Internet is great, then I try to download XCode or another app from the AppStore and the wifi cuts out. But not only does the wifi stop working on the mac it also cuts out the broadband hub, which stops working completely!! This is very frustrating because my broadband works very well with all other device in the house, but as soon as I turn my mac on and try to use wifi, the whole router stops working and it does not start working for a few hours at least!

Has anyone experienced this before and knows how to fix it? It's all very strange as I use my PC on the wifi without any problems.

Could it perhaps by the wifi USB I'm using? Or something wrong with the OS 10.9.1 I have installed?

Please help as this is my first mac and I am not having a very pleasant experience so far.

Thank you.

Mac mini, OS X Mavericks (10.9.1)

Hi, it sounds a bit like it might have a Static IP set up instead of using DHCP to get an IP from the Router.

Make a New Location, Using network locations in Mac OS X ...

    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2712

    10.5, 10.6, 10.7 & 10.8…

System Preferences>Network, top of window>Locations>Edit Locations, little plus icon, give it a name.

    10.5.x/10.6.x/10.7.x/10.8.x instructions...

System Preferences>Network, click on the little gear at the bottom next to the + & - icons, (unlock lock first if locked), choose Set Service Order.

The interface that connects to the Internet should be dragged to the top of the list.

Use Your Wifi Utility to set up a new Profile.
