I have an iMac w/Mavericks and Facetime will not log me in

I have an iMac w/Mavericks and Facetime will not log me in - says check network connection. Firewall is not the issue. Even restarted computer after adding FT to firewall permissions. Didn't work w/previous mac software either. Works fine on iPhone & iPad. Any suggestions or just stick w/Skype!? Thanks.

iMac, OS X Mavericks (10.9.1)

Hi cococat50,

Thanks for visiting Apple Support Communities.

I recommend the troubleshooting steps in these articles if you're not able to sign in to FaceTime on your Mac:

Thanks for your suggestion. Was on the phone for over an hour w/Apple supervisor who could not resolve the issue (yet...). However, saw someone else positing the notion that because my iMac does not show the serial# (had to have something repaired when we first bought it and guess the repair person did not put # back in), Facetime & iMessage not recognizing the computer. That almost makes sense. Can I put the serial # back in or does my friendly supe have to do it? Thx.
