Q: where does the text appear when using dictation?

My father is hard of hearing and I always type my dialog. I would like to try dictation, where does the text appear for him to read?

    The text appears in the application you have open with focus. Any application that has a data entry field. TextEdit would be a good place to start, but any will do. Remember tha app has to be open and have the focus. You can dictate up to a short paragraph before Dictation will choke.
