When I turn on my iPad it just shows me the iTunes logo on the center of the screen and shows a USB cord

When I turn on my iPad it just shows me the iTunes logo on the center of the screen and shows a USB cord. Fully charged & given to me by someone who bought a new iPad so this iPad is at least 2 to 3 years old. I believe it is 3rd Gen. If anyone can help me get this iPad to get me to the dialog of slide to unlock & to Apps I woiuld really appreciate it. Thank You.🙂
