How do I find someone's email address?

Hi all,

Apart from the obvious "just ask them for it", I was wondering if there was a successful way one could find someone's email address like a service or piece of software.

There are services such as www.whitepages.com that provides email addresses. However, users have to provide their email address in order for these services to provide them, so a lot of people have no registration of an email address.

There are enterprise servers, LDAP servers, that maintain email addresses for persons within the enterprise. Most universities, for example, have LDAP servers from which one can find email addresses for those at the university. However, you must know the IP or domain name of the LDAP server in order to access it. Some are only accessible to those within the enterprise as a security precaution.

So, basically, the best way is as you already observed, "just ask them for it."
