Q: Snow Leopard upgrade to Macbook with a broken disc drive

I have a 2006 macbook and attempting to upgrade the OS to 10.6 snow leopard, however the disc drive is broken.  I also have an iMac that was recently upgraded. Can I create a disc image to copy onto the Macbook for upgrade?  How can I do this?

MacBook, Mac OS X (10.6)

Does the iMac have a Firewire port? If it does then connect the two by Firewire cable. Boot the MB intoTarget Disk Mode. Boot the iMac from the Snow Leopard DVD. You can then install Snow Leopard onto the MB by selecting the MB's hard drive as the installation target.

Or, clone the Snow Leopard DVD to an 8 GB USB flash drive that has been partitioned and formatted for OS X. Then boot the MB using USB flash drive via OPTION boot:

    Boot Using OPTION key:

      1. Restart the computer.

      2. Immediately after the chime press and hold down the

          "OPTION" key.

      3. Release the key when the boot manager appears.

      4. Select the desired disk icon from which you want to boot.

      5. Click on the arrow button below the icon.
