mini DV import using iMovie 10.0.2 - scene import breaks into, "million" clips

Tried seaching; apologies if I missed an obvious thread.

I am importing a mini-DV tape into iMOvie 10.0.2. The import is breaking each scene into numerous clips; where there should not be a break; nor is there one when viewing.

Any suggestions on how to fix this?

Note, I am specifically using iMovie because of the ease to add Date & Time stamps.
