Please help. I have a big keynote to present today which I showed already yesterday, and today it tells me that I need a 'newer version" of keynote in order to open this presentation. I have the latest update installed (Keynote 09 Version 5.3 (1170) )....
It makes no sense.

This error happens when opening a file created in a newer version (6.1) and opening in an older version (5.3)
Do you have 6.1 installed, if so try right clicking the file > open with > select Keynote 6.1
Gary, this strangely also happens reversely to files created in an older Keynote '08 version (4.0.4) if I try to open this in the brand new Keynote '09 (6.1). Any idea how to deal with this? I am prompted to open the older presentation in Keynote '09 but I can't open the file, so let alone I can save it in another format!
Unbelievable to me that there is no fix for this. I'm seeing it today in January 2015. Have updated Keynote every time. Have latest version. Have a document created only several months ago. Tells me I need a newer version when I have the latest version.

Check you are opening the file with the correct version: right click the file and select; Open With > Keynote 6.5.
The keynote opened yesterday says it needs the newest version which is already installed
