I am on the login in screen at startup for my Mac which is about 4 yrs old and I forgot my password ? I think it's a 09 how do I get to the startup w/out a password

You don't have Mac OS X 10.3 or earlier if any portion of the Mac is labelled MacBook.


http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1274 explains how to fix the password. You'll need either the original discs from AppleCare if you lost them, or a newer retail installer disc. August 28, 2009 Mac OS X 10.6 was released, and March 29, 2010 Mac OS X 10.6.3 retail was released. So depending on the age of the MacBook you'll need one or the other retail if not the original installer discs.
