Q: camera not recognized after update to mavericks 10.9.1

My MBP camera is not recognized by any applications since I updated the operating system to Mavericks. I updated to the latest version of Mavericks and still no luck. Does anyone know of a fix for this problem? Thank you.

MacBook Pro (15-inch Early 2008), OS X Mavericks (10.9.1)

If this does not help, contact Apple.

Thank you. This didn't work so I called Apple. The tech suggested the same thing. We tried it twice. Still no luck. He said he hadn't heard about this problem. I told him there are lots entries on various forums from people experiencing camera problems after updating to Mavericks. The tech person is looking into other possible fixes and getting back to me. Thanks again.

Hey was facing the same problem with my girlfriend's macbook air, but i found a way to solve it:

    1. Shut down the computer.
    2. Plug in the MagSafe power adapter to a power source, connecting it to the Mac if its not already connected.
    3. On the built-in keyboard, press the (left side) Shift-Control-Option keys and the power button at the same time.
    4. Release all the keys and the power button at the same time.
    5. Press the power button to turn on the computer.
      Note
: The LED on the MagSafe power adapter may change states or temporarily turn off when you reset the SMC.

its already there in the support page http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964

    Hope it helps

Thanks for trying to help. Glad this fix worked for your girlfriend's MBAir. It didn't work for my MBPro (mid 2008). The Apple tech support guy and I tried all of the SMC fixes and nothing helped. His last suggestion was to make an appointment at the Genius Bar where they will probably re-install Mavericks to see if that helps. Reverting to a previous OS isn't an option because Mavericks made changes to firmware also.I read on gadgeup.com that the applecamera.plugin file is incompatible with Mavericks and needs to be changed. The site provides a link to a replacement plugin file. I'm not brave enough to do that myself, but I'm going to bring the info with me to the Genius Bar and see if the tech person thinks it's worth a shot.
