Not getting email on iPad

I have suddenly lost the ability to get email on my iPad. The message I get is "IMAP server "apple.imap.mail.yahoo.com" is not responding. Can anyone tell me how to fix this? I have no clue as to what imap is.

iPad mini Wi-Fi, 16GB
