Remote control not working with reset Apple TV (black model)

I’m so glad I found this! My remote hasn’t worked in 6months and my phone decided to stop working as the remote so I thought it was bin time. Followed steps 1 and 2 and hey presto. Thanks for your detailed instructions:)

Tried both options, but still nothing! When I press menu, I get the 'bong' sound. But can't scroll up down or sideways. The light on black Apple TV box remains a static white. This is a brand new remote control!!!

Thanks cupertino_alert, worked on first attempt.

The un-paired icon doesn't hang around long and I almost missed it - it appeared in the top LH side of my screen, it's white, almost transparent.

I had the same issue. My remote was working one day and stopped working the next. None of the methods worked (I have a siri remote for apple TV 4). Then I came across a YouTube video that talked about charging the remote and voila!! As soon as I connected it via my charging cable (same that I use for my iPhone 6S Plus) my remote worked instantly. Looks like I needed to charge it!! I then pressed the Menu and Volume Up buttons and it paired instantly.

Neither of those worked?! I have tried everything and nothing works?? It sometimes goes to the main menu but then nothing no sounds nothing??? I am so frustrated with apple lately I’ll probably just get the fire thing when I get money cuz I haven’t been able to watch anything I’m paying for in my own living room for a month!!!!

Still an issue, I cannot access the ATV, series 2. Batteries replaced, connectivity working, but no action by remote on screen. Tried all suggested options, from rebooting (by unplugging) to unpairing/re-pairing, with no luck. On re-pairing the atv continues to flash. Any other suggestions ?

I have a similar problem. Black remote (without white circle) worked fine up to 2 days ago, then suddenly stopped working. Thought it is just in need of a recharge. Not the case. The remote is paired again and the message pops up that the remote is connected but I still cannot use the remote as nothing else is working.

Any advice?

My remote will not move left. It moves up and down but not left. I tried holding the menu and down button and the disconnected it and turned it back on with still no result. I also changed the battery.....no avail. Please help. PS it is the old silver remote.

I’m having an issue with my Apple TV remote when I go to type my WiFi password in every button works all except the back button on the remote so I can’t choose any letters or numbers that go back if anyone knows how to fix this please help me

Second option by "Cupertino_alert" worked:

Un-pair the remote, then re-pair the remote.

To un-pair it, hold down the Menu button and the Left button at the same time until an icon appears on the screen showing a remote with two cloud-like icons. That means the remote is un-paired.

To re-pair the remote - or to pair it with the Apple TV for the first time - hold down the Menu button and the Right button at the same time. It should pair with the Apple TV almost immediately.
