Airport Extreme (2013) Dropping network Constantly

Hi everybody, I just purchased the new airport extreme 2 days ago. The first one did the same thing so i went and replaced it last night thinking it was just the one being defective but apparently not since it is happening to this new one as well. I want to use this router but if this keeps happening i will have no choice but to just choose a different company. But i digress, the issue is that all my devices that would connect to the airport extreme (both wired and wireless) would drop the network and reconnect within 5 seconds or so. The status light remains the same green color. It is not my modem nor my isp because i had a linksys router set up before i purchased this AE and it has worked fine for years. I have recently upgraded to it and this happens only with the AE connected. It is not related to wireless channels because a wired ethernet cord connected to my windows desktop does the same. It drops the network and then it reconnects within 5 seconds. On my iphone, ipad, macbook it does this as well. Loses connection to the AE and reconnects. This happens every 30mins-1hour . It does it twice in succession. I dont understand the problem with it. I tried calling apple support but it seems like they defend their defective router to the end. It is not my modem or my isp i repeat because this all worked fine with my linksys instead of the AE. I am in need of dire help to fix this issue or else im going to just flat out have to exchange to an asus one.

I have scoured all over the forums to find a solution but so far nothing has worked. I have tried changing channels on the wifi, turning off ipv6, take off secuirity on the wifi, and i have tried restoring it to factory settings twice. Along with reverting to 7.7.1 and updating to 7.7.2. Like i said i need all the help i can get because i really would like to use this router but it seems like this is a persistent problem and apple doesnt even know how to fix it.

I was having the same problem, although not losing connectivity as often -- only several times a day. I noticed, though, that everything would be fine with my wireless devices downstairs, but then, within a few minutes of going to work upstairs on my iMac -- which was hooked up via network cable, not wireless -- my connection would often drop. The problem was that this was not always the rule, so I am not sure of the exact trigger. (You may ask why my iMac was hooked up with a wire? My computer speakers, which I like, are old and produce noise around wireless connections.) Anyway, the problem was getting worse, and earlier this week I decided to disconnect the wire from my iMac and go back to wireless with it.... Since then, I have not dropped a connection.... As I had previously been losing connectivity several times a day, this seems good evidence of the wired connection being the problem.... Well, more evidence, I lied, because I _have_ dropped the connection once, and that was when I turned on my Windows machine. It immediately started accessing the internet via Dropbox and within a minute my internet connection was down. Yes, the PC is connected by a wire. I disconnected that wire.... Btw, this is a latest generation iMac and Airport Extreme. Bought them both toward the end of last year.... I hope we can find a valid solution to this.... What I am wondering is whether I need to upgrade my network cables? Maybe the wires are not the right gauge? I have to admit that don't know much about such things.... So far, so good, though, with 100% wireless.

WOW - I have been struggling with this issue for the past 2 months and it's been driving ME INSANE - it was only recently I realized that my airport was dropping our network constantly which was why all my devices would only connect sometimes. Removing the spaces in my network name did the trick and now all my devices are connected and there has been no problems whatsoever. Thanks for this reply and seriously.....AE needs to remove the ability to add spaces to your network name so that people don't have this problem in the future. Thank you!

I'm having the same problem almost for the last 2 years if not already as it's been a nightmare and no one at Apple was able so far to find or come up to a solution for this problem. It's definitely a mystery which being in June-2015 I cannot believe there's NO solution for this problem?

I have been speaking with senior technicians at Apple and changing between them and opening new case numbers but nothing so far.

At this stage and after a long research I'm convinced it's an Apple problem with the AirportExtreme's unfortunately for all of us.

If someone has or come up with a working solution(not the one of removing the spaces of the network as didn't work) I invite them to bring it up please.

Thanks in advance, SVS

acording to Consumer Support Specialist. & a supervisor tech. That the generation 6 Apple Airport Extreme cannot be set up properly on a Windows device.

Because this offer is updated Apple is chosen to not update the software to support generation 6 hardware.

Therefore it must only be set up with a Mac device.

so u might want to return it i have one and ya the 5 ghz band keeps dying this is the 3third replacement and 4th unit

Thank you for sharing this fix. I've followed your advice and will wait to see if the devices remain connected to my Apple router over time.

I only recently started to have this particular connection issue, having had this Airport Extreme for nearly a year now. My Apple TV and smart TV's apps ceased to work unless I kept rebooting the router (daily occurrence). Surely something was awry, I thought.

I appreciate this solution--hoping it will do the trick.

I have this exact problem. I had an AirPort Extreme and started dropping the connection. Cox - my internet supplier said it was my router not their modem. So… as you did I bought another AirPort router. And having the same problem with this one. I easily set up the network, all worked fine for one night and bam! Disconnect every few hours by this morning it was reset, connect and within 15 minutes dropped connection. I'm at a loss.

just got back from the apple store. If you have cox cable for your internet. This fixed mine. Go to airport utility, then select network, then network options. If you have Block incoming iPv6 connections checked, uncheck it. Cox has some websites that are iPv6 and if they are blocked they will just block all your wifi. Good luck
