How can I change the resolution of one monitor in a dual monitor set up?

I'm trying to help someone set up an extended desktop using two monitors connected to a mac mini. One monitor is at the maximum resolution, but the other is not, and thus feels enlarged or zoomed in. I know a higher resolution is possible because the monitor has a button menu that shows a higher resolution, but it seems to be disabled - as I cannot select the maximum.

Also can't seem to change it under the mac mini's display preferences.

Any suggestions? We would really appreciate it.

System Preferences - Displays then select the display and change the resolution there.

Thanks for you reply. Unfortunately this doesn't work. The highest resolution is greyed out and is unclickable.

It works however you may be attaching an external display that has more resoltuion than the MM can address. Please look on Apple's website for the Tech Specs for your model MM, it should advise the maximum resolution for external displays.

The problem is just that one of the monitors is displaying a smaller resolution. We have two identical monitors and one of them is correclty dislaying at the maxmimum resolution, so I assume the mac mini is capable of displaying the maxmimum resolution of both monitors.

Unless it is possible that the mac mini can only display one monitor at the maximum resolution? That seems unlikely.

What is the resolution of the monitors and what conections do the Monitors have?

What model Mini do yuu have?

Thanks for your help.

The monitors are DoubleSight Dual 17" and 19" LCD, model: DS-1700 & 1900 series. I believe the max resolution is 2560 x 1024.

The mac mini is 2.3ghz from 2012.

This model simultaneously supports 1920x1200 on an HDMI or a DVI display (using the included HDMI-to-DVI adapter) and2560x1600 on a Thunderbolt or Mini DisplayPort display

The HDMI connection does not support higher than 1920X1200

What resolutions are running now and on what connection and what is the grayed-out resolution?
