Q: I've been trying to restore my 1st generation iPod touch for a month now, tried pretty much every suggestion I came across online.....the problem still persist, the error messages now is "The iPod could not be restored. An unknown error occurred (1).

That error often is an indicator of hardware failure. If you've worked through all the suggestions regarding security software, and in particular if that error still appears if you try another computer, then the probability of a hardware problem with the iPod is high. Apple will still exhange it for their out-of-warranty replacement price:

but if it were me I wouldn't put a nickel into a first-gen iPod touch.
