Can't Boot iPod or Connect to Restore or Format! Stuck!
There are similar problems to mine here. I've tried everything suggested by Apple Support and things I've read in these forums, but no dice.
Here's my situation:
I was listening to my 60GB 4G Color iPod in my car using the Nyko iTop (great for no-look track and volume changes). Anyway, I switched tracks and the music stopped. At the next light, I look at my iPod and it was frozen. Nothing worked or responded and the screen was stuck with the backlight on. After running an hour's worth of errands with the iPod in my pocket, the screen was still on and it was quite warm when I reset it. After it restarted, all of my songs and playlists were gone, but the About screen still said I had the same amount of space available/used. I reset it again and all the songs came back. Great.
Then I decided that I would restore the iPod to fix whatever bug was affecting. The only problem is that neither iTunes nor the iPod would recognize the iPod. Since things were taking so long and I was getting bored, I put the iPod up to my ear to hear if the hard drive was doing anything at all. Sure enough, the drive was working - it clicked and whirred rhythmically. It didn't sound like it was doing anything productive, but trying to retry something repeatedly.
As the Apple Support site says, I (1) reset the iPod (again), (2) retried with a different USB port, (3) restarted the computer, (4) removed iTunes and iPod Update and reinstalled the most recent versions, repeated 1-3. At this point, the iPod stopped starting up properly, now I can't get to the music at all, I just get the sad iPod icon with the Support URL on it.

I've tried to start the iPod in disk mode to restore it, but that won't work either. Once I get the Ok to Disconnect checkmark screen, I plug it into my computer, it connects, then immediately disconnects, displays the sad iPod icon on the screen and shuts off.
My iPod is 1 year and 9 days old, but I bought Circuit City's replacement plan when I bought it. Their plan requires that I ship the iPod to them, they look at it and send a replacement or gift card for the original purchase price. I'm thinking I'm going to have to replace it since I've exhausted all obvious remedies. Does anyone have any other ideas so I don't have to be without my iPod for two weeks while they look into it?
Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thank you.
