Help with my iPhone 5s connecting to bluetooth on my Macbook Pro

I've tried so many times connecting my iPhone and Macbook via bluetooth but it never works! My computer acknowledges that my phone is there but every time I try to connect, it shows a message that reads, "Network is unavailable - make sure network access is enabled." I've looked up suggestions on how to solve my problem but none of them have been able to help. I'm on a college campus so can't restart my router and I only have an ethernet cord to help haha.
