My iCloud contacts are not duplicated but they are on my iPhone 5. How do I correct iPhone listing?

I don't understand how to update my contacts on iPhone5. I synced with Outlook and iCloud. iPhone received all email addresses, etc. So there were new contacts created with email address imported, etc. I need to clean them up on iPhone. How is the easiest way? iCloud listing is fine.
