buy it again?

I had to re-install my IOS on my MacBook Pro because it was getting a little slow, and when I wanted to put it back, it only allowed Mavericks, but not my old system. Fine. I got every program back, plus iBooks and all that jazz. EXCEPT my iPhotos! Now there is an option to buy it for $14.99... But I had it originally, when I purchased my laptop years ago, and never had a problem with updates...

Can anybody please figure it out, why do I have to purchase something that I already paid for? How can this be fixed?

The old version you have will not work with Mavericks, so you must get the new version. Be sure you have checked your Purchases page in App Store for an iPhoto entry. New downloads of Mavericks should be accompanied by a free download of the new iPhoto via Purchases.
