Can i take my mac mini to the apple store for them to install new RAM?

Depends on how old the Mac Mini is, some Apple Stores do not stock RAM for the older models.

Best thing to do is call them, ask if they stock RAM for your model and then make an appointment.

My experience is NO. I called the Apple Store here in Chengdu, and asked them whether they could upgrade the RAM for my new Macmini. The answer is "NO".

But you can easily do it yourself. I have a manual in Chinese. Let me know if you can read Chinese or not. I wll then post it here.

Actualy replacing RAMS for macmni is pretty easy, but adding a second hard disk (such as a SSD) is a lot more dififcult, but still doable.

Sure you can - if you don't mind voiding your AppleCare warranty and any possibility that Apple will help if things go wrong.

If Apple say something can't be done and you or some 3rd party do it, then you are 100% on your own - is this worth it????

Replacing the memory in the 2011 and 2012 Mini does NOT void the warranty.

I took Bluebird73's response as correct - that Apple won't do it. Normally if Apple say no to something, then doing it is a warranty killer.

It is clear from your link that it is OK - I wonder if the store in Chengdu just couldn't be bothered to help?

thanks for the follow-up. Chengdu store did reject my request. I had to do it myself. And it was a huge success. I replaced the origional 2x2GB RAM with 2x8GB one. And I added a second hard disk (a 128-GB SSD), too. The sytem has been running fine for one month.
