Does your iPad say:

Feb 19, 2014 5:39 PM in response to juleskarby Demo,If you have a third generation iPad, it can be updated to iOS 7.0.4 only. You cannot stop at iOS 6 or anything in between. You have to update all the way.
If your iPad has a camera, it can be updated to iOS 7.0.4. Only the original iPad did not have the camera so if it has a camera it is not the first model of iPad. All other iPads except the iPad 1, can be updated to iOS 7.0.4.
Jailbreaking is modifying the iOS or hacking the software. It is a bad idea to jailbreak. If you do it, you run the risk of downloading viruses and malware and you would also lose any support that Apple might be able to offer, if you needs help in the future.

Feb 19, 2014 6:16 PM in response to lizdance40by juleskar,Thank you for your response. The model # is A1337. My device is Apple IPad wi-fi/3G/GPS Original, which means I'm stuck with ios 5.1.1, until I can afford a new one.
Thank you again!!

Feb 19, 2014 6:17 PM in response to Demoby juleskar,Thanks!! Mine doesn't have a camera, so it's the original model. I won't attempt to jailbreak it, as it sounds risky.
Thank you for responding!!
