iPhone is not showing on Mac or iTunes

My iphone is not showing up as a device either on the desktop or on iTunes. All is up to date, I have restarted both desktop and iphone, nothing has worked. The desktop is new, iMac, bought this past weekend. On my mac laptop the iphone shows up as a device on itunes. I have done as suggested for a couple of threads but they are old (past years) or have conditions unlike my on situation.

iPhone 5: iOS 7.0.4. Mac desktop: OSX 10.9.1.

Thank you for any help. 🙂

iMac, OS X Mavericks (10.9.1)

It sounds like you did not migrate your Mac laptop to your iMac. If you did, this sync would be easier.

Maybe this will help:

The situation is a little more complicated than that, I simplified it for the sake of the post. While it is true I have my iphone synced with a Macbook Pro, it is not my own, it is my sister's. I do not have a personal computer, however my parents bought an iMac for family use at home. My situatiion remains the same, as I don't have access to my sister's laptop because we are both busy college students.

I would like the iMac to be the new primary device for my iPhone to connect to. The iMac nor iTunes are identifiying the iphone as a device, though when I connect said iPhone it does charge.
