I want to run .iso file on my mac

Hello,

I bought a learning book which has a CD with .iso format file. I can't run it on my Macbook Pro. Can you please tell me how to run it on my computer?

And please suggest me if there is any App for converting file from .iso to .dmg.

Thanks for your help...

I think you can use Disk Utility to mount an .iso file. Then you may be able to access its contents.

What happens when you just double-click it?

Also try opening Disk Utility, drag the file into its left-hand panel, select it and click Mount.

The ISO file is of course just a container for other files or applications - if this is from a Windows program, you'll likely need to run Windows virtually to be able to access it.

As mentioned mount the iso volume first, then you can run programs contained within it.

If you are comfortable working at the command line, then there are tools included in OS X that will convert an *.iso volume to a *.dmg volume. In terminal, type "man hdiutil" and read about its "convert" command.

I might have the exact command or syntax not quite right so check it before trying, but something like this should do the trick:

hdiutil convert /full_path_to/folder/file.iso -format UDRW -o /full_path_to/folder/file.dmg

An *.exe file is a Windows binary file. You need to execute it in Windows, so you either need to find a windows machine, or install windows onto your Mac using a separate boot partition or a virtual machine (and you will need a licensed retail installer disc or *.iso disc for Windows obviously).

Is there any software or tool to run .exe file on mac?

Yes, there is windows. A mac will readily run native windows, either as a separate bootable operating system (using Apple's BootCamp) or in a virtual machine like Parallels or VMWare Fusion.

There are UNIX/Linux utilities that offer some alternatives, like WINE, but honestly, if you are not fairly familiar with and used to command line Linux, you will find such utilities an exercise in pure frustration. Even experienced UNIX users often find WINE and its ilk to be little more than a pita and simply not worth the effort to run a windows app - far easier, simpler and more straightforward to just install Windows.

Please give me a guide on how to use 'Apples Bootcamp'.

And I didn't understand it (Parallels or VMWare Fusion)
Should I buy windows to run .exe file?

Apple Bootcamp - https://www.apple.com/support/bootcamp/

Bootcamp is Apple's boot manager and partition tool. It allows you to partition your hard drive to create an area to install Windows to. When you start up your laptop, you then pick which operating system you wish to run - Windows, or OS X. To stop using one and use the other, you restart, re-select the operating system, and let the machine reboot.

VMWare Fusion - http://www.vmware.com/products/fusion

These are programs that run in OS X. The create a virtual machine, into which you install Windows. Because the Windows machine is emulated in software (literally, the "machine" is virtual), it lets you run windows and OS X simultaneously.
