Connecting iPad to iMac via Airplay

I have a mid-2011 iMac running OS 10.9.1 and an iPad 3 running iOS 7.04. I want to display my iPad on my iMac via Airplay. When I open System preferences / Displays on the iMac, it shows AirPlay Display: No devices detected (greyed out).

Can these devices be connected? What am I missing?

Thanks!

Paul

Hmmm... I'm trying to go "from" the iPad "to" the iMac. I'm trying to display via AirPlay what's on my iPad's screen to my iMac's screen. I don't think your link addresses that, or if it does, my poor brain isn't reading it correctly (I think the link deals with Apple TV). Just today, I saw a setup with a MacMini displaying an iPad screen via AirPlay. I tried to reproduce it at home and I'm unable to do so.

Oh my....

I was searching for the same and came across this post. You may have figured it out already, but there are two software solutions to deliver iPad to Mac mirroring. Info below:

Reflector: http://www.airsquirrels.com/reflector/

AirServer: http://www.airserver.com

Have not tried either yet.
