iTunes not sensing my iPod when plugged in?

I've had my iPod for around a year and it's been synced with the same computer for at least 6 months. The computer recognizes the iPod when I plug it in, but not iTunes. I waited for a month or so, just to see if the problem would fix itself, but no luck. Also, the iPod continues to ask for permission (if i trust the computer) every time I plug it in to the computer.

Ps. I use an Apple charger to plug it in, if that's relevant. Also, my iPod is a Generation 5.
