After installing Mac Os X Mavericks I can't open iPhoto anymore

Installed Mac OS X Mavericks (previously had OS 10.6.8) and now and can't find iPhoto on my system. Error message appears saying I can't use that version of iPhoto anymore as 'I' have a newer version (which I can't find anymore on my Mac and can't find my photos!!!)
