Apr 8, 2014 10:42 AM in response to stardustjunkieby J.K. ROFLing,From what I have seen, the moderators are pretty responsive to a reasonable request to remove a post. However, they have said in the past that the reason for not allowing users to remove posts are mostly because they don't want someone to post a question and then remove it after they get an answer, they prefer for it to remain for other users with similar questions to search for and find it and not have to post themselves. Also, removing random posts from a thread would destroy the continuity of discussion within that thread.
But if you have a privacy or security concern, like ricskiapp in this thread, they will usually remove or edit the post to address those issues pretty quickly.

Mar 6, 2016 1:04 PM in response to J.K. ROFLingby SBeattie2,Is it possible to request that the moderators lock a post. The issue that the original post is addressing has been resolved - yet - people continue to post unrelated topics creating confusion for those trying to follow or resolve the issue of the original post. In this case - the post is about Time Machine not doing hourly backups after upgrading from Yosemite to El Capitan. The issue was fixed in the 10.11.2 update. The post is question is:
Time Machine not doing hourly backups on El Capitan

Mar 6, 2016 1:30 PM in response to SBeattie2by ChitlinsCC,posts are rarely LOCKED.
I took a look at your referenced thread... not likely to get locked, as it seems the recent posts are at least 'somewhat' related - not banter and repartee.

Mar 6, 2016 2:12 PM in response to ChitlinsCCby SBeattie2,Thank you for your opinion. There is no problem with the post at the moment - but I was just concerned that the post (which involved a specific issue with Time Machine - involving a UPS - that has already been corrected by Apple) might become a catch-all for other unrelated Time Machine problems. I am also not sure of what the conditions are that warrant "locking" a post.

Mar 6, 2016 2:31 PM in response to SBeattie2by ChitlinsCC,The methods and means here are 'imperfect' - it is the largest community of its kind in the world - thus, the Hosts "pick their battles" (tasks) carefully I am sure.
As I said, I have rarely seen a thread locked that is not ages old

First, we do not know the criteria as the hosts are the decision makers; but, usually, it has to be either a "notice" from the hosts which should not wind up being a discussion, or a very old discussion. Other than that, the hosts will remove individual posts if they violate the ToU, illegal ripping of DVDs, questions about beta software, and similar things.

Sep 26, 2016 2:54 PM in response to Roger Wilmut1by ashwdwrd,Hello - I would like a post deleted if you can send it up the flag pole please. I understand that it is up to the Hosts and my request may not be honored.
Explanation - In the middle of composing, the site either refreshed or timed out and it posted my reply before I had completed writing it, I was unaware of the 15 minute cut off as this is the first reply I've submitted. I posted the finished version just beneath it, but it is confusing to have both up - especially as the first one does not finish explaining how to accomplish what the questioner asked.
The link is below and I've included a screenshot of the first part of the one I'd like deleted which is The first response from me.
Thank you!
Ashley

Sep 27, 2016 12:55 AM in response to stedman1by V-l-a-d-i-m-i-r,Hi, not sure who can help me with the similar request... I have the old, very old topic, and it's large (69 pages of discussion), and as of today it's become completely, weirdly useless and outdated. Just everything, all questions and responses are about the old issues with old drivers (not even existing anymore), so while the topic is about the really useful solution for Macs, such an outdated discussion simply confuses the people. Can moderators please be notified to delete the thread? Here it is: A NEW TRACKPAD DRIVER IS OUT . Thank you very much.

Sep 27, 2016 1:21 AM in response to V-l-a-d-i-m-i-rby K Shaffer,Although sometimes the Hosts are helpful in locking an old thread
there seldom is one that gets removed; another idea is to check in
your ASC user settings to see if you can stop 'following' content
and then maybe set the 'notifications' to stop sending you email
among other items. I've asked the host to consider whatever action
they can perform in this matter, and it's up to them, now.
So we can hope for the best, but check those settings in your user
account for discussions, where you are able to ignore old threads.
Hopefully the topic-matter will come to a close; after sixty-nine pages.

Sep 27, 2016 9:01 AM in response to ashwdwrdby ChrisJ4203,You might want to refresh your browser. It is gone when I tried the link.

Sep 27, 2016 9:05 AM in response to ashwdwrdby turingtest2,You posted a link to a specific message. If that one has been removed the link breaks even if the thread itself still exists.

Sep 27, 2016 9:59 AM in response to ChrisJ4203by ashwdwrd,This drop has two screen recordings showing two separate ways I got to the thread - both in incognito mode. (Which from what I understand should have an empty cache/cookies or what not)... ****
