LG-VX8500 "Chocolate" cell phone - can it sync with an apple?!?!

I have the LG-VX8500 phone, other wise known as the "Chocolate" - got it the day it came out here. ^-^

I thought it just used a USB Mini to sync (like the Razr and most other logical devices) but, we all need to remember, this is Microsoft and the last thing they want is for things to "just work."

Of course, it does not have a USB Mini port, it has some off-the-wall connection, I don't even think it has a name ... =/

Today, I went searching for a USB > "Choco." cable at some mayjor computer stores - Comp USA, Radio Shack, PC Richardson, etc.

Don't even bother looking for the cable individually, Microsoft has it under a patent and prohibits any other vendor from selling it. Of course, the only way to get it is to purchase the $29.99 Music Essentials Kit which gives you a worthless software install disk (that doesn't work with mac) and a decent, if even that pair of headphones. Along with the several instruction and installation books that need to come with any unit of software to cover the many problems that will arise and give several patches to fix the already bugged software. And guess what! the best part is that it's NOT returnable! Only Microsoft & Verizon could conceive of something this aggravating. >:0

To All Mac Addicts Here (you'll like this!): The installation book clearly states that 1 out of 3 syncs will NOT work! It doesn't state why, but I think we all know that answer to that! >.<

iSync will not work, I guess Apple foresaw this and doesn't want to get involved with the madness of Verizon & Microsoft.

I have yet to find any patches or work arounds yet ... the Verizon site has no reference to this problem. How surprising ... =/

Now, true, you can set the phone to Bluetooth sync and your Mac will find it and you can sync address book cards ......... one at a time ... how very efficient. =P

I suppose it would be a bit redundant of every other post ... but if anyone knows an answer of how to really sync the phone (and by sync I mean put music to it, take pictures from it, take videos from it, and put vids. and picts. on it), you know what to do. =)

Good old Microsoft! Just bought the "Chocolate" and have 15 days to return it.
I like a lot of the functions but this really is amazing that Microsoft can take iTunes and turn it into a mess, and then lock out Mac users.
Have you had any luck? I have an iMac 17", running OS 10.4.7...do I need to run XP on my Mac to make this work? Chocolate requires running Windows Media Player 10 but Microsoft only provides WMP 9 for OS 10...oy!
Do you know if the any of the Razr phones with built-in mp3 players are OS10 compatible?
Thanks for any knowlege,
K

Yes, you would need to install Boot Camp on your Intel Machine, in order to download WMP 10. But, no guarantee's on if even that will work. Pretend you go out and buy Boot Camp, download WMP 10, do all the work, spend the time, and long and behold, you get a pop-up stating: WMP 10 can not operate on a Mac Platform. Please go waste your money and buy a worthless PC. Be sure to download WMP 10 within 1 hour of starting up your machine. Exceeding this time limit may cause your computer to be incapable of downloading WMP 10 because you will have too many viruses on your sad excuse for a "computer." Good luck ****3r!1!!

But, that's just a theory!

As far as the Razr goes, I don't think so ... but don't quote me on that. I really don't have the knowhow to answer that correctly. But, the Razr seems like a decently friendly phone ... it's worth looking into. I'm sure your not the only person who wants to know that answer to that. Google it.

Best of luck with your shudder Boot Camp testing.

I wish. I don't know of this "magical" patch, but if this salesperson told you there was one, he was probably lying - just to sell you the phone... **** you salesmen >:0

Pretending that this man did know what he was talking about, you might want to take the time to go and see him again. Ask him what exactly he was talking about. You probably won't get anywhere with him, he doesn't care about you anymore >.> but it's worth a try.

If you have any info on some kind of patch for the mac, please let us know. Much appreciated ^-^

This is true, nice find.

Now if there was only a way to do it without going out and blowing some more money on another accessory for my phone >.>

The Choco is $350 with no plan or anything. Fine.

You can get it as low as $50 with every possible plan renewal, rebates, account holder discounts, etc.

So, a $50 phone soon needs a $30 kit, and another $175 SD Card... just to do a simple music sync which is one of the main features of it!! =/

Very nice >.<

Verizon at it's best.
