You could try a reset of the computer as follows:

•Resetting PowerBook and iBook 'Power Management Unit' (PMU)

•About NVRAM and PRAM:

http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1379

Depending on the model G4 PowerBook and G4 iBook, there may be

a capacitor on the logic board in lieu of a PRAM battery, so if the

Date/Time do not stay set, the Capacitor may have failed, if present.

This capacitor gets power from power adapter, & rechargeable battery.

On models certain portables with a tiny PRAM battery, it may have failed.

An http://ifixit.com repair guide may be helpful to see the level of difficulty

replacement of a Capacitor, or a pram battery; depending on model.
