Connect to iTunes on your computer.

Connecting to iTunes does not allow me to update my iPad 2 3G. When I search for updates it says "This version of the iPad software (5.1.1) is the current version."
Then it appears you have an iPad 1 (no cameras).
It turns out you are correct stedman1. Thanks for pointing that out. Does the iPad 1 not allow IOS updates?
That model can not be upgraded beyond 5.1.1.
That's a bummer. I'm a bit new to the tablet world and I found this one very inexpensive on a Facebook group so I snatched it up thinking my kids could use it. They love it, but certain apps won't work with the older IOS, which is a little frustrating. Maybe I'll just re-sell it for a quick little profit and get something newer. Thanks for your help.
The article below may help you find compatible Apps.
This has been a great discussion and a great help to me!
Thank you again stedman1. I'm not sure I want to go get the newest iPad (whichever one that even is), but if I were to get one of the newer models/versions, do you have any suggestions?
You're welcome. I have an iPad 2 that is almost 4 years old, and still does all that I need, and does it very well. I imagine when it doesn't work for me anymore, I would purchase a newer model, most likely one from the Apple refurbished selection.
Maybe I'll keep my eyes peeled for a nice iPad 2 then. When you speak of refurbish, are you buying those directly from Apple then I presume?
The iPad 2 may be difficult to find as a refurbished unit, since it is nearly 4 years since its release. Yes, I've purchased quite a few refurbished items directly from the Apple site.
You are a quick and an awesome responder stedman1! My last response wasn't very good...sorry. I will keep my eye out for a used iPad 2 in good shape, but perhaps I'll also peruse the refurbished newer models. I never thought of going the refurbished route. I'm wondering with as good as Apple products do at keeping their value if refurbished would be that much cheaper, but I suppose looking around and comparing will answer that for me :-)
stedman has given you some very good advice, but I would like to add one mor thing to the mix. Should you decide to try to purchase another used iPad from eBay, or any third party, be very careful to make sure that the iPad has been fully erased and all traces of the previous owner's Apple ID removed. If the iPad has not been properly erased, you can end up with a useless brick that you will not be able to actIvate again or restore if needed.
