Q: How do I wipe clean my Macbook Pro with Mac OS X version 10.5.8? I bought the laptop with the software already installed so i do not have an install disc.

I have tried to restart pressing command and R as well as the power button. Also, option and power button. Nothing happens and it goes straight to password input area and just lets me log in.

HELP!

Thanks

    a)  Use an equivalent or higher operating system installer disc.

    b)  Clone the drive to a bootable external drive.  Boot from the external and use Disk Utility to erase the internal drive.

    c) Put the computer in Target Disk Mode and use another computer to erase its drive.   How to use FireWire target disk mode - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1661 - includes description of hardware and software requirements.

Buy an install drive. Insert it. (You might be able to make one as well, not sure if you can with the older os or if it's even legal. It is legal with lion on up for sure, as long as you don't distribute)

Hold down option. And turn it on. Do not let go of option until you see a list of drives to boot from.

    Select your install drive.

Open disk utility when it boots, and erase your hard drive.

Quit disk utility, and install from the install drive

Also, if you have any time machine backups with the same os version you can accomplish the same result.

You are going to need to purchase a new Operating System Disc to Wipe what you have on there now.

You will need a Full Retail Version of which ever you choose.  Do not try to Borrow a disc from a friend unless it was from someone who has another MacBook Pro, because they are different from an iMac or any other product from Apple.

You migt have a look here.

    Cheers, and Good Luck.

You can call Apple and ask for replacement install disks; not sure if they still have them for 10.5, but it is worth a try - you give them your serial number and they'll ship replacements for a nominal fee. If they do not, you can purchase the retail Snow Leopard disk which has 10.6.3 from Apple - if you are on 10.5, that should work. Depending on the model of your machine, you may be able to upgrade further or not. Using an install disk from another Mac (including Macbook Pros) will not work unless the other machine has the exact same build as the disks are machine specific.
