A1181 MacBook won't boot.

Hai!

I was given an A1181 white MacBook by a teacher to fix. It refuses to boot.

Here's what she told me:

1. The battery and MagSafe cable went wrong in 2010 and were replaced by Apple.

2. The hard drive died recently and was replaced by her husband.

3. The recovery disk got stuck in the drive.

4. She used to see the flashing question mark at boot, now nothing.

Keeping that in mind, I let the MacBook charge overnight and hoped this would be something simple. I turned it on...

1. There was no light at the front.

2. I could hear the disk drive, HD, and fan at high load.

3. The screen flashed white.

Here's what I thought:

1. The disk drive may be causing problems.

2. The screen backlight is dead.

3. The logic board is bad.

Here's what I did:

1. I opened the case and took out the battery, HD, and disk drive.

2. I plugged in the charger and turned it on.

3. I put a lamp behind the Apple logo on the top case.

New thoughts:

1. The LCD is causing problems. I saw no pixels.

2. The logic board is dead.

I asked the teacher to bring her mDVI adapter. If it works on my ACD, then I'll know it's down to the graphics or LCD. If it doesn't work, then the logic board is bad. A replacement logic board would be worth more than the MacBook itself.

What are your thoughts on this? Thanks a bunch!
