i have been trying to get a bottom line answer to the compatibility of my mac pro running 10.9.1 with an inkjet lexmark printer model z715. does anyone know if the latest apple software update makes this possible? thank you.

Check with Lexmark to find out the latest driver's OS X support. Apple's latest driver package is Apple Lexmark Printer Drivers 2.12. You can also see if there is support in these drivers: Supported_Printers.
