Airdrop mac to ipad?

Is it possible to share files from Macbook Air with Mac OSX 8 to an Ipad Air (version 5)?

I am trying to set this up because I can use the cell connection on the ipad air to get files through its aps.

I know I can use the ipad as a personal hotspot but it may use more data quantity.

Apple provided a mac to mac tutorial on airdrop but not from mac to ipad.
