Calendar events have disappeared, please help!

All calendar events that I entered into my calendar on my iphone 5 prior to this date are gone. I have not been able to retrieve them. I share my husband's apple id with him (if this info helps - I have a feeling this might have something to do with why this issue is happening). Desperately need these events back, please help!
