Q: A tech got my computer with Mavericks to work my printer Canon s9000, but the color is way off!  Help??

Have a MacBook Pro Maverick 10.9.1 and an old Canon S9000 which still works great except with my computer until Gutenburg was used.  It prints but the colors are bizarre despite ttying to adjust Colorsync.  Any ideas to correct this?

Thanks!

MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, Late 2013), OS X Mavericks (10.9.1), Used Gutenburg

Gutenprint can have issues with colour management so you should look at getting PrintFab. It costs €49 but there is a 30 day trial so you can test to ensure you are getting the correct output.

Thanks for your information!  The rest of the story is that my husband has an iMac with also a 10.9.1 operaing system and the Canon S9000 works just fine without Gutenburg etc. So I was trying to trouble shoot my  MacBook Pro without buying a new printer.  It just seems that ifi Canon S9000 works on his iMac without any additional support , that it should work on mine.  Printfab would be about $82 dollars and new printers can be obtained around $200.

Did you try reinstalling the Canon printer drivers from Canon site?

That is surprising because Canon has not released a driver for a very long time. I wonder what driver he is using? You can check by opening Printers & Scanners, select the S9000 and then click on Options & Supplies. Under the General tab you will see the driver version. What is showing on his Mac?

Also, did he upgrade to 10.9 from a previous version of OS X? I would expect this to be the case and that he had the S9000 installed and working fine with the older Canon driver.

Correct!  He had the S9000 established and then upgraded to 10.9.1.
Thanks to the world wide Apple Support Community that now I understand this!

    Sorry to kidnap the thread.

I got some problems as well with my S9000. I got a totally clean maverick installation and the system can't find any drivers for it...I tried installing the latest/anchient driver from Canon (bjdriver 1,94) but that doesn't even select in the printer dialouge. Should I just consider this printer to be dead from now on or is there a way to get it going again?

You can call Canon or email them from theiri Website, but the answer will not make you happy as the gist of it is -  "we are so happy that our older machines are still working but we will not be updating a new driver."  Then they offer you a special deal on printers as some sort  of a personal customer.

Read through all the reples as one person suggested Printfab to help correct the color problem (I haven't decided what to do yet - new color printer or Pritnfab.)

    Good luck!

Although I see this thread is 'solved', I would like to add an expanded option:

If you still have access to a working older version Mac, share the printer and then connect via Bonjour. Quite often this will transfer the correct drivers, allowing you to establish a direct USB connection afterwards.

Several times I have been prompted that "the drivers are not installed" when I connect to a a shared printer, and am offered installation from the host.

It's been a while, but I'm fairly sure this worked in the past...
