How much does it cost to fix a sound problem.

I plug in the headphone that came included and other headphones and still will not make a sound. I have updated,restored,and pressed the home button with the awake button. I checked if the headphones work they do and I plugged the earpods to a ipad and work fine.I bought the ipod at best buy. Oh and if you have another idea to make a sound come out please tell me so I can save a bit of money.
