You cannot. The patch has been written in the latest version of iOS. You can either download iOS 7.0.6 and apply the patch, or you do not.

You can't on an iPhone 5; that's only an option on the iPhone 3GS and fourth generation iPod touch, which is because Apple released a separate patch that's only signed for those devices.

You cannot; iOS 6.1.6 which patches this issue is only for devices that cannot run iOS 7. You can submit feedback to Apple at http://apple.com/feedback/iphone.html. I'm going to suggest they offer parallel updates, meaning that both iOS 6.1.6 and 7.0.6 show as available updates in the Software Update menu.

And you know as well as I do that isn't going to happen. Otherwise they would also have to build in the facility that would allow you to Restore you iPhone 5 to 6.x rather than having it update.

This is not new, it has come up before with security updates for various versions of iOS. Apple never allowed a choice of which patch to use.

Yes, it has come up before where patches were released for multiple versions of iOS. I realize you don't care for iOS 7 but you might as well ask Apple to allow rollback of iOS and selection of which iOS you want on your device while you are at it.

Sending a email to Tim Cook will get you the same result, visiting the headquarters will get you the same result, etc, etc. You aren't that important and certainly no more influential than anybody else here.

I believe it has happened twice, once when iOS 4 was just released (the text vulnerability) can't remembe offhand the other time.

You have several devices Matthew, want to sacrifice one to a test? If your are running iOS 6.1.5 on say an iPod Touch 5 does the update appear in Settings > General > Software Update? And since the OTA update is done in place does it let you update to 6.1.6 or does it tell you to update to iOS 7?
