Q: How to connect Airport Extreme to Cisco DPC3925

I have a Cisco DPC3925 ADSL wireless modem / router and I want to connect my AirPort Extreme (5th generation) to it wirelessly (preferred option) or wired to extend my network.  Can someone please provide me a step by step guidance on how to set this up?  Thanks.

Since you will not be able to extend the Cisco with the AirPort Extreme with a wireless connection between them, your only choice would be to create a roaming network with the both of them to basically get the same effect.

This type of network will require little or no changes to the Cisco gateway device. Take a look at the link I provided for the step-by-step instructions. Please post back if you require further assistance.

    Hi,

    few questions:

    1. in the proposed setup, do I need to turn-off the wifi on my Cisco DPC3925 ADSL wireless modem / router?

    2. wired connection between Cisco wireless modem/router and airport extrem, can this be done over Ethernet powerline adapters?

    3. I only have one station which means this will be setup as "Primary Wi-Fi base station"; correct?

    cheers

No, you want to keep it active.

    2. wired connection between Cisco wireless modem/router and airport extrem, can this be done over Ethernet powerline adapters?

Potentially, yes. Both routers would have to be on the same electrical subcircuit to make the connection between them using these adapters.

    3. I only have one station which means this will be setup as "Primary Wi-Fi base station"; correct?

Since a roaming network allows the use of wireless routers provided by different manufacturers think of the "primary" as the router directly connected to the Internet. In this case that would be your Cisco.

thanks for your help, the setup is working via the Ethernet powerline adapter.
