Q: Power button on MacBook Air

I sometimes accidentally press the power button on my keyboard because it is right above the delete key.

The computer is supposed to go into sleep mode and does go into sleep mode when the power button is pressed but every once in a while, the whole computer turns off.

Is there a way to stop this from happening, perhaps something that forces the power button to work only if it is held down?

MacBook Air (13-inch Mid 2013), OS X Mavericks (10.9.1)

no reprogramming the power button, no, see above on how it works now in Mavericks.

That just shows how the power button is supposed to work. It just happened to me again 5 minutes ago, I tapped the power button as if to delete one letter and the whole computer turned off.
Does it help to say I get a window that says "you shut down your computer because of a problem" afterwards?
