not getting any light seems no power or in standby mode

You have to grab a micro USB cable and restore via iTunes

I have the same problem and its driving me nuts. Only had apple TV 2 weeks and everything been fine

and then for some reason im getting the cord sign on the Tv screen must itunes logo

Tried different sockets, a different tv etc, still the same.

Must i take to Apple store?

no not yet, i need to get a micro usb cable

If you were attempting to update then it means it it didn't apply correctly. Otherwise it may be a cause of a major interuption like a power outage, storm etc.

ok , thanks for that. it helps to know others have had same problem.

only had apple tv a few days, and i was getting very frustrated with it.
