apple TV and iPad (to be used as a remote) won't connect
I want to use the iPad as a remote to adress Apple TV to avoid the silly typing on the original remote. Bluetooth does not connect.

If you are talking about using the Remote app that allows you to use your iPad (or other iOS device) to control your Apple TV, it actually connects by using the same wireless (WiFi) network that the Apple TV uses. You may find the following article helpful:
