Does anyone know of a script that will remove track numbers from a libary? About 1/3 of my songs have track numbers in front of the song title and the rest dont. Big job to do it manually.

Windows?
Yes, Windows XP Pro.
You can edit track numbers on multiple selections. Select all the songs you want to work on, press Ctrl-I, and checkmark the "__ of __" track number boxes, making sure they're empty. This clears both boxes. It's almost as fast as scripting.

But that's not what he wants to do.
He wants to remove the 01, 02, 03 from in front of the filename.

That is correct I want to remove the 01, 02, 03 from in front of the filenames...Any thoughts?
Open iTunes prefs -> Advanced - Importing.
Uncheck Put track number at beginning of filename.
Not sure if this will delete them off the current files you have or just not put them on new files when imported.

my issue is that much 1/2 of the data has been imported or ripped with another program and many of the songs pulled in the 01,02,03 etc. in the title/filename. I think the only way is a script? not sure. I did try your recomendation with no luck.
I found that iTunes had added track numbers to the filenames of all of my music, which I don't like and find completely unnesessary.
I finally found a way to automatically remove the numbers.
I trashed the iTunes preferrence files (NOT the music library), then launched iTunes. It acted as if it was the first time I had launched it and after I hit "accept" for the software license agreement it updated my library.
Then I selected "Preferences" from the menu bar, clicked on the "Advanced" icon, clicked on the "Importing" button and deselected "Create file names with track number".
After clicking on the "OK" button, iTunes asked me if I wanted it to reorganize my music library. I clicked on "Yes" and iTunes removed the track numbers from the filename of every song in my library.
